OUR SCHOOL DAY

A Day at Roch CP School

Before School For those who need to arrive early, children can be dropped off from 8am for a healthy breakfast and fun activities before school starts.

At 8.45am the school gate opens and the children meet friends in the playground until Registration at 9am.

Morning Activities All the children start their school day with Registration in their classroom, in Dosbarth Enfys and Dosbarth Coch this will be on the carpet whilst learning the days of the week, months of the year and the weather, with singing in Welsh and English.

Weekly assemblies include our Welsh assembly, singing practice and our Merit assembly, when we come together to celebrate the week's achievements. We enjoy singing together both well known songs and learning new ones. In our Welsh assembly we learn a new sentence of the week and award our top Welsh speakers, with the winners taking home their class mascot for the weekend.

In the morning your child will take part in Language, Literacy and Communication and Numeracy lessons, focusing on learning through play in the Early Years and continuing to develop their skills in fun and engaging ways throughout their years in Roch School as they move up the school.

Mornings are split into two sessions with a break and snack in between. Children can either bring their own healthy snack or 30p a day to buy a piece of fruit from the school fruit shop.

Lunch is between 12pm and 1.15pm, when the children receive a tasty lunch and free play outside.

Afternoon Session In the afternoon the focus is on our Topic activities. Throughout the school year the children will learn about and investigate a variety of topics from, Homes, Super Heros, Victorians, Electricity and Identity.  Learning takes place in exciting ways: learning indoors and outside, using the school grounds and outdoor classrooms, engaging with the local community and environment, with opportunities for trips locally and further afield.

PE is taught with the support of Pembrokeshire Sport. Swimming lessons are for years 3-6 in Haverfordwest Leisure centre.  Welsh learning through song, role play, taking part in the School Eisteddfod and other cultural events are a integral part of our community life.

After School The school runs Kids Club, from the end of school till 5:30 for those who need after school child care. There is a charge for this service.
